With all the talk of employment branding you’d think that most recruiters would have long since figured out how to brand themselves, but it ain’t so. The shoemakers children once again go barefoot.
In this clip I encourage recruiters to take their personal brand seriously and seize the day.
- Identify your true passion. That thing that really sets you apart. Ok, you’ve heard that before but it’s key.
- Give up three things. I’m sure there are three useless things you can give up to gain the time you need for a transformation. For some it might be internet games. For others it could be alcohol or weed or fantasy football. By themselves, those things may not be immoral, but if they are keeping you from being 100% focused on an important goal, then they’re harmful.
- Assess the platform. Today the internet as a commercial platform is hardly 15 years old. As Gary Vaynerchuk says, it’s not old enough to have had sex yet. Opportunities are everywhere and the best ones require little cash to run with. Not since the telegraph and locomotive of the 1850s has their been a platform change in business this big.
- It’s all about trust. It’s about the people you know and the needs you see.
- It’s not about LinkedIn. The opportunity transcends any tool. It’s not about Facebook or the Twitter fire hose or Google either.
- Assess the opportunity. Realize that recruitment like every network related industry is in the throes of a profound transformation that will leave no stone unturned.
- Invest in building up your personal brand. This takes no cash – just hard work. Start following guys like MNHeadhunter, the Animal and Steve Rubel. Watch the videos of Gary Vaynerchuk.
