The Declining Fortunes of the Big Staffing Companies

Adecco’s stock crashed this week after reporting earnings below expectations. This despite success they share with other big staffing companies in high-growth markets like Germany and some countries in the Far East.

Big staffing companies can do great in new markets because they’re in entrepreneurial mode. They get producers in place and let the adrenalin carry them. But they rarely make the turn from entrepreneur to structure intact.

How do you build structure and keep the entrepreneur spirit alive at the same time? It’s difficult, and it’s darn near impossible when the platform for your technology comes from a vendor with no interest in your strategy.
