With Staffing World going on in Las Vegas this week, what better time than now to get the take on jobs and employee relations from the guy arguably most responsible for the city’s success over the last 25 years. Steve Wynn, a democrat and big President Obama supporter in 2008, had this to say:
I’m afraid of the President. I have no idea what goofy idea, what crazy, anti-business program this administration will come up with. Every business guy I know in the country is frightened of Barack Obama and the way he thinks. The living standard of Americans is being destroyed by this government in Washington that will not stop spending money that we don’t have."

“It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.” – Aristotle
One person’s opinion is just that, their opinion. I encourage you to share your own opinion. I am neither Republican nor Democrat. I believe the bipartisan nature in politics is black and white and we need our nation to see in color, find some common ground. I don’t know who I am voting for as of right now because it seems each side has some extreme stances that I personally am not on board with. In a perfect world I could take what I liked about each candidate and form a new an ideal candidate and vote for that person. No such luck. I’m stuck deciding who the lesser of two evils is in my eyes. It’s all about perspective. Someone who owns a multi-million dollar company is going to see the issues differently than say me, a mother – a college student – an independent contractor who earns a modest wage. I can say that Steve Wynn makes valid points though I don’t agree with everything he said.
If you want me to remove you from the news that I compile every day because you do not agree with someone’s opinion or perspective, that’s fine but I have to have your email address to do that. You can email me at amandap@staffingtalk.com with the subject Please Remove and I will take you off, no worries.
Does the election have anything to do with staffing? Absolutely. Exercise your first amendment right and speak your mind. What don’t you agree with? What do you believe is best for our nation?
With the Vice Presidential debate happening tonight, this IS current news.

The entire Staffing Talk team admires your work Amanda, and your comment reflects the thoughtfulness you put into the Staffing News of the Day.
Quite apart from political partisanship, there is a time/place/manner issue — and this was inappropriate on all three counts. Read the excerpt above — it is nothing but a partisan attack ad, having little to do with the specifics of our industry. That impression is reinforced by other content that has been provided previously hereabouts.
To cloak this duck in high-sounding rhetoric about “First Amendment rights” is preposterous. Although I really have another barnyard organic in-mind, if it looks/quacks/swims like a duck: staffers, it’s a duck.
And Amanda, my email is tfcmail@gmail.com.

I’ll hang in there for another email or two, but I agree with Susan’s sentiment.
I want to keep up with staffing industry trends, not the same political propaganda I can easily get from FOX News, talk radio, or thousands of terrible websites.
If I started a staffing blog and injected it with Occupy Wall Street agitprop… I wouldn’t expect anyone to find that useful, either.

I heard steve wynn really give it to Obama on a Fox show a little while ago (admittedly it made me feel rather good.)
In my humble opinion I think Wynn is a very smart/ sharp business guy. Obama could have learned a lot from Wynn if he had cared to listen. (Obama could have learned a lot from Jim Collins for that matter)
Who knows what will happen in November, but I hope the next President reaches out to the many smart business guys in this country.
All the best

I can’t think of ANY topic that affects business, including staffing businesses, than the election next month. Thanks for finding other influential people with an opinion about the government interference in business.

My point isn’t that the election isn’t important.
It’s that Gregg’s posts of late have had little to do with the staffing industry per se and more to do with recycling right-wing “red meat” that’s readily available through conservative media channels, for people who love conservative politics.
I’d be interested in learning how government policy affects the staffing biz and how to adjust. I’m not interested in reading rants from another Hannity clone.

Is this now a supplement to “FAUX” news? As your competitors talk about the industry, this newsletter is becoming way too political. Statistically half (or more depending on the polls) of your readers support the president and the policies. I am interested in ideas on landing new clients, gaining more business from existing clients, and recruiting the best candidates. Leave your political ideals to the “Faux” news forums and focus on what this newsletter should be about. If that is not in your interest then please remove me along with Susan.

If this was a pro Obama article, no one would be crying. Steve Wynn is a pretty good businessman who happens to employ a ton of people. Try listening to what he is saying, and you just might learn something. Good grief.

You’re still missing the point. If this were a pro-Obama post that had very little to do with the staffing industry, I’d be just as confused. It’s like taking a sip from a Sprite can and getting Mountain Dew instead.

Wynn is right! I’m not sure why he voted for him the first time tho. If O., is re-elected for a second term we may all be collecting checks from Washington/China. A deeper look into his long-term agenda should scare the hell out of any American. Any President who circumvents Congress like this one has to impale their own agenda through the heart of all Americans should be met with great obstruction.
Lover your product Gregg!

So let me see if I understand this. Steve Wynn of Wynn CASINO Enterprises is concerned that the US is over spending money it does not have.
Isn’t that like Segrams being concerned about Lindsey Lohan?

If Obama wins, you’re all moving to Canada?
Richard Nixon, a hardened criminal with positions well to the left of Obama’s, didn’t “ruin this country,” make us all start speaking Chinese, or anything like that. W. Bush didn’t, either. I doubt Obama will.

What’s all the fuss about, Winn is a Democrat who voted for Obama. He doesn’t like the president’s jobs policies and record. Can no one voice his or her opinion about this administration? I’ve heard he’s employed over 25,000 people over the years through his business, I believe he’s earned the right to an opinion on jobs whether or not we agree with it.

Susan, Robin, Tom, Sandy…….you have got to be kidding…??? How could anyone from the Staffing Industry be for Obama? I have been in this industry for over 35 years, and I have never seen anyone so bad for our industry! He doesn’t have a clue of how the free-enterprise system (not to mention the Constitution) works. In addition to Staffing, we are highly involved in the PEO (Staff Leasing) industry. In addition to making sure that small business cannot create new jobs, his illegally appointed pro-union socialist cronies on the National Labor Relations Board are making all of us spend a disproportionate share of our time complying with all kinds of goofy, extremely anti-business compliance programs that are wasting my time. Wynn is right on……the rest of you don’t have a clue. By the way, I’m looking forward to Obama taking Reid and Palosi with him! Can’t wait for the debate tonight, but I’m more excited that Obama / Biden are on their way out. Maybe then, we all can get back to work and make some money! And, I don’t plan on sharing any of it with the lazy bumbs that are taking advantage of all of Obama’s entitlement programs. 99 weeks of employment? You have got to be kidding! More people of food stamps than ever before? That’s nuts! Maybe we should get rid of the free rides and make these people go out and get a job. If you are really in the staffing industry, then how many people do you call before you get one that agrees to an assignment? Unemployment has crushed our industry, not to mention the increase in state tax mods (to our members) to fund them. So looking forward to seeing Obama go back to Chicago.
..Our company is also highly involved are also y is he badour country is being destroyed by idiot Socialists like Obama, Reid and Palosi
I have no idea what goofy idea, what crazy, anti-business program this administration will come up with.

Stellan,
Read what Winn has to say. He thinks the policies are anti-business (Business is directly tied to Jobs & Staffing). “Other business people he knows are frightened by the way he thinks” (business people do the most hiring but they’re not hiring – Jobs and Staffing). The standard of living is/HAS falling; no jobs and lower paying jobs combined with the government running trillion$ in deficits equals a lower standard of living (Less Jobs & Less Staffing).
Appears relevant to me, just admit you don’t like that fact that someone has the nerve to question the president (and candidate at the time). I know it hasn’t happened much in the past 4 plus yrs.

Staffing Talk too political? Not by my count of the articles posted here. Even Gregg (who loves to hold forth on his strong political views) writes about subjects other than President Obama most of the time.
I am surprised at the “take me off the list” comments. You guys must hate Facebook and at this time of year. My friends from both parties can’t seem to keep their silly opinions off the FB newsfeed.
Disclosure: Gregg is my brother and I love and respect him dearly, even as I disagree with his political views.

Hi Anonymous…I note that you posted from ip-address 71.204.179.64. This is your 9th comment to this post, and the sixth one in which you say that you are unsubscribing or leaving. You’ve posted using three different handles I’m guessing to disguise yourself. Having fun?
Staffing Talk is and will always be about the Staffing Industry and what makes it work including having a pro-job economy. The opinion presented by Steve Wynn here reflects that of nearly 100% of the staffing owners I talk to, all who say that the current administration’s anti-business attitude and new healthcare law are preventing the economy from flourishing.
If you have a different perspective, we’d like to hear it here at Staffing Talk. Articulating a counter-position is far more effective than cowardly commenting under pseudonyms that you aren’t coming back again. Never, ever.
Look, Sherlock — here’s the secret to why Anon comes back — your admin function keeps sending him/her updates to these comments even though s/he has requested removal. I can attest from my own experience of this thread that it’s annoying all over again.
It’s also bush league to set up a message board to allow anonymity and then accuse someone of cowardliness when they use it — AND then ‘out’ him/her on the Board by posting their internet address when they disagree with you. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised at the lapse of judgment, but I Am offended by it.

Quit the political bull crap and give us information on staffing. That is what I am paying dues for. Facts and information on staffing not opinions on politics. There was too much political bs and not enough info even at the conference this week. Wake up not all of us are right wing Fox News information spewing neocons. More information less opinion.

Often times, when people are confronted with facts that make them uncomfortable, they react strongly and negatively to the facts being presented. That appears to be what’s happening here. It is hard to admit we were wrong. This isn’t about whether one is a Democrat or a Republican. This is about facing what is the truth of the lack of leadership we are experiencing with our current president. I’m an Independent. The one truth I believe we face is that if Obama is re-elected, many of the people who are upset now, will be even more upset with what we will all be facing in the economy for several more years, beyond his next term.

”We know they are lying to us, and they know we know they are lying to us yet we abdicate to their lies by voting for them.” ~ Anon
They all lie to favorably sway, manipulate the minds to their needs and agendas. Hello real world, Meet Politics. Happening now at an office with you. Here are some lies from last night’s debate. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/10/17/obama-vs-romney-presidential-debate-round-two-who-lied.html
I just found your site but I’d like to read a Staffing Talk (non bias) prediction post about what it would be like for staffing business owners if President Obama were reelected. As well as a post for the prediction of Senator Mitt Romney’s impact on the staffing industry if elected. There are a lot of instances in the history of both men so far that would demonstrate what action would be taken by each man in most given situations. I think it would help people within the staffing industry to understand who they are voting for based on actions rather than empty debate promises or candidate half truths. If you can do video, that would be even better. I love dramatic informative videos but I bet production is expensive. I don’t know what everyone else is saying they will unsubscribe to but I have placed your website in my staffing industry bookmarks along with the other one mentioned, http://www.staffingindustry.com/site/content/view/full/71815. It looks like both websites are full of various knowledge and insight, just different styles.
I’ll check back, thanks for the staffing brain food.

I like your suggestion Vivian.
I was just in meetings with a high level exec from one of the bigger staffing companies, and he presented a different picture than the one I’ve been offering. He says that the impact of healthcare reform will be felt by all employers, so much so that they will seek out staffing companies more not less, that they will try to bypass the regulations through shared employment arrangements and simply offloading the onus of being an employer. He says that will negate the reduced demand for staffing caused by the overall damage to the economy.
A deeper post on this is coming from Staffing Talk.
I look forward to that post Gregg.
The company I work for is about 10% Staffing and 90% PEO business, so if he’s right, we stand to do extremely well.
As I mentioned in an earlier post about the cost of the Affordable Care Act, I think some of the big companies will be able to survive with their bulk buying power and ability to reduce their acceptable/required margin. Their ability to do that, however, will undoubtedly push many smaller local Staffing Companies out of competition, and sadly, out of business.
