Sorry, you’re not funny enough to work here. A new survey of chief financial officers finds that most think it’s somewhat or very important to have a sense of humor if you want to fit in with their companies. The survey of 1,400 CFOs, conducted on behalf of staffing firm Accountemps, found that 57 percent think an employee’s sense of humor is somewhat important when it comes to fitting in with the company’s corporate culture. Another 22 percent said it was very important. Only 20 percent thought humor wasn’t important at all. [Life INC]

PeopleScout says it placed about eight-thousand veterans last year, and wants to build that number. The company’s annual conference for its clients is scheduled around the Super Bowl — it brought in former Steelers coach Bill Cowher to give its plans a Super Bowl glow. Patrick Beharelle, CEO of parent company SeatonCorp, says the company will work through veterans’ groups like the American Legion to get more veterans into the pool from which hires are made, and prioritize veterans’ experience during the hiring process. Custom Staffing Services says it’s been frustrating because a large chunk of people who are unemployed are taking advantage of the system, instead of getting back to work. Lorry Rieckers says the unemployment is their biggest competitor.  She says at least ten people a day turn down a job because they would rather use up their 18 months of unemployment benefits. ”We’ll even tell them we’ll call and say they declined work because they want to stay on unemployment and they still continue to get their benefits….yeah it’s frustrating,” Lorry Rieckers said.  [TriState Homepage]
