Staffing News Of The Day, May 6, 2011A $10 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor will be used to hire temporary workers to help local governments in the areas hit hardest by the storms, Governor Bentley’s office announced Thursday. The workers will help with clearing debris and the rebuilding process. In a recent survey completed by Kelly Services, the most popular social networking sites for finding work are Facebook (33 percent) and LinkedIn (32 percent). Ten percent said they use blogs and 3 percent use Twitter. Facebook is favored by Generation Y job seekers, while LinkedIn is favored by job seekers from Generation X and the baby boom generation. U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data show employment in the service sector expanded in March, gaining 78,000 jobs in professional and business services. It may be unethical, but it is legal to charge applicants a fee upon working with a temp agency. However, the Labor Bureau requires that any fees are to be returned on demand if the agency is unable to find work for the applicant.
