My Twitter mentor the Recruiting Animal takes on Gary Vaynerchuk’s thesis that anyone can make it big in social media.  Animal is one of the most verbally gifted people I know, so it was a delight to see him face off with Vaynerchuk who has made a fortune (presumably) with his wine library TV appearances.

Marketing take-aways:

Success with social media is hard work.  Vaynerchuk puts in 12+ hours a day.  Animal works his tail off too.

The real work is in community building.  A lot of people think they have to write like Proust to get their blog recognized.  Reality: you’ll get a lot more recognition for your blog/site/show by going out and making the other guy look great.  Vaynerchuck spends 3x as much time commenting, networking etc as he does on content.

Make sure your idea makes sense.¬† The recording is from an internet talk show by Jason Alba of JibberJobber about whom I wrote when he came to speak at JobDigs a year or so ago.¬† Jason‚Äôs company is a play on the outplacement space ‚Äď perfect for the bad economy.

Here’s the link to the recording.
