Although I tend to get most excited about internet-based communications, there's nothing like that good old work-horse, the telephone, for getting work done. The human voice still works just fine, so
don't confuse the demise of the telephone companies with the future of the telephone and speech-based applications, which are rapidly becoming internet-based systems themselves.
