Notes From The Microsoft Professional Developer Conference

After its public relations disaster with Vista, Microsoft is running – not jogging – to a new name, Windows 7, which is Vista with some patches and a new coat of paint.

Windows Azure, Microsoft’s new push for computing “in the cloud”, allows you to use the next generation of desktop tools from anywhere on the Internet. For example, a sales person could edit a proposal while a client is reading it and while the COO is approving it from her mobile phone.  Microsoft has been building massive data centers around the globe so you can store your documents and have them be redundantly available any time you want.

Another cool thing from the PDC is that Microsoft demonstrated TempWorks for the third straight year as an example of how to architect a business application. Congratulations to my guys for creating an incredibly attractive and easy to use software system. Here’s the clip from last year’s demo. This year TempWorks was one of six companies so honored.
