What does a celebrated pro athlete do after the celebration is over? I’d rather not think too deeply about that, but among the last things I’d guess is open a staffing company.
Yet that’s what Ray Lewis, the future Hall of Fame linebacker (who wears #52) of the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens football team has done.
Based in Baltimore, MD, RL52 Staffing provides IT staffing services for temp hires, permanent placement, outsourcing and outplacement as well as consulting.
RL52 Staffing operates “across the spectrum of IT solutions ranging from systems integration and web development to technical support and network security,” according to Dan Caporale, a partner with Lewis and president of RL52 Staffing.
“RL52 Staffing provides a service to today’s workforce and a solution to Fortune 500 and emerging growth companies,” said Caporale. “Our goal is to focus on operational excellence, higher specialization and efficient delivery models in today’s workforce.”
Caporale has spent more than a decade in the staffing industry as president of Multiple Streams, a Virginia staffing firm; as a branch manager for Renaissance Worldwide (now part of Aquent); and as Managing Director for Apex Systems.
RL52 Staffing is a business component of Lewis’s RL52 Group, a “global creator and manager of business opportunities and charitable efforts.” The common thread through each of the half-dozen-plus businesses within RL52 Group is a balance between business success and community service.
“Ray’s goal in everything he does has been to create an environment or an opportunity to give back,” said Caporale. “The RL52 Group has carefully selected a group of companies that provide a way to do just that by offering a service or solution.”
According to the firm’s Facebook page, RL52 Staffing will include under-served groups and disabled veterans in its client roster.
The company also claims to maintain strategic alliances with corporate and government entities – as well as “celebrity professionals” – to aid in the process.
Perhaps the figurehead of the RL52 Group is the Ray Lewis Foundation – something like you may have seen before as pro athletes branch out into youth-oriented charity.
But it also consists of a commercial realty, the Ray Lewis Apparel Co., RL52 Merchant Services offering various forms of electronic payment, leasing and loyalty programs, and a separate business in the fitness industry selling Twinlab Power Fuel pre-training nutritional drink.
Nearly all of these feature a different business relationship between Lewis and various businesspeople. For the overall RL52 Group, that’s William Poster, principal of Eagle Rock Advisers, LLC and former president of Computer Systems & Communications Corporation.
Pending are ventures in insurance and another entity known as Poster Lewis Co.
