Minnesota Sues Employment Agency

Alleging fraudulent CareerBuilder advertisements and bait-and-switch tactics, the Minnesota attorney general is suing a Twin Cities-based employment agency, the Arthur Group.  You can get the big media scoop on this from the New York Times.

In reading through the hundreds of online complaints posted by job seekers, it’s hard not to sympathize, not to wish Attorney General Lori Swanson success in quickly getting some manner of justice for the victims.

At the same time – let’s call wine wine and bread bread – the entire job aggregation industry is infected with deception.

Job ads, often fictitious or floated for internal political reasons, get posted and reposted by aggregators. It’s difficult for an unassuming job seeker to differentiate the real from the fake and oftentimes impossible to peel back the layers of aggregation to find the original source of the job ad.
