In the graphic below, you can see that Ceridian spends some amount of time tracking TempWorks, and if you look closely at the “referring URL” line, you can see the shortened URL at Ceridian that linked to this blog. No big deal, except that Ceridian is a payroll company and should take Internet security more seriously by not revealing that they have a dedicated internal page for us.
You can use this same “referring URL” information often to track down prospects. At TempWorks, we use a combination of the URL and the IP address/DNS to determine the name of a visiting prospect. With the company name we can often go to Jigsaw, a contact information service, and get the name, number and email address of the owner or VP of sales.
