Here’s some good news for the 47% and actually anyone else out there that wants to avoid debt and see their kids successful. As reported by Bloomberg, an engineering grad from South Dakota will make more than a Harvard grad.
That’s just the beginning of the good part. Tuition, fees, and room & board for South Dakota School of Mines amounted to less that $12k a year in 2009 which is less than what can be made from two months of hard labor in a fracking camp. Ditch digging not your thing? With more than $8 million available in scholarship funds, SDSM can offer a lot for students who prefer a different kind of hard work.
In reading this I thought I found a fallacy in the study, that perhaps SDSM selected only elite, top 1% type high school students so as to maintain such great starting salary stats upon graduation. But no, 83% of applicants are accepted, and their SAT/ACT scores while above average are not stratospheric.
It’s great to live in a country where opportunities like this exist.
