Last week, we ran a story titled “The Temp That Changed My Life“. The heart warming story was submitted by a longtime reader who preferred to remain anonymous.
She shared with us how a certain temp worker completely changed her outlook on life.
This triggered other staffing professionals to send in their stories (which I love to read, by the way). This one below comes from Jody Audet at TPM Staffing.

I was in my first year of staffing. I had a wonderful opportunity to open my own office, not knowing much about the industry, but ready to take on the world!
“Jim” came into my office. I was in a very high rent district, with some very important companies sharing the building, and Jim was anything but pleasing to the eye or the nose! Literally, minutes before he had walked into my office, (and my life), I had just received an order for a maintenance tech at a mall. Guess what Jim’s background was! I knew it was a God thing!
Jim told me his story. Lost his wife after many years of marriage, started drinking. Lost his job, family, and his home. Moved to Colorado with the last dollars he had, and was living in his car. Desperate for something, he captured my heart.
I took him to a second hand store and fixed him up with a new outfit. Then drove him down to the local gym so that he could shower up!
When he walked out of the club, he looked like a new man. I drove him to his interview. He was hired on the spot! With no place to live except for his car, they allowed him to park in their parking lot, and he showered in the facility every morning.
Every Friday when Jim came to pick up his pay check, he let me know how happy he was and that he would never know how to repay. I returned the comments of how proud I was of him, and that I was so happy for him to find the perfect job and to be part of it.
One day, he came in, and gave me a big hug and told me he just signed a lease on an apartment! No more sleeping in his car.
A few weeks later, he came back in and announced he was going on perm and they were giving him a substantial raise!
Then finally the Friday came that he was picking up his last paycheck from TPM! I was so proud of him, but so sad to see him leave us!
Around noon the door opened to our office, and two men came in carrying the biggest bouquet of flowers that I have ever seen! They were our thank you flowers from Jim!
Even to this day, when I travel to the mall and see Jim, he makes sure to hug me and let everyone know that I was the one that gave him his life back!
That’s why I love what I do!

Now that’s what I’m talking about. Email your story to me at paulp@staffingtalk.com. I can’t wait to read it!

That is a great story! It just goes to show that a little help can help someone a lot. Not a whole lot of people would have taken him to the second hand shop but what did it cost? 10 dollars? a little bit of caring? It says a lot about the type of character Jody has and the staffing company.

a lot of people say that theres no use for staffing companies but this story shows why staffing companies are so crucial in someone’s transition stage of work. That company wouldn’t have looked twice at him but the staffing company took the risk and gave him the chance. You’re a great person Jody. Thanks for sharing the story

Jody this is a great story! Had my tears come out and became sentimental. I have read two good stories this morning. Shows that there are people out here who really care. We must remember that when we help someone get back on their feet God helps us even greater. Great job Jody!!

What an amazing story – this literally put a knot in my throat and tears in my eyes. Thank you for giving me something positive to read today. Sometimes in this industry you can get really down and negative this makes you remember why we do what we do. Thanks again!!!!
