If you’ve ever thought your staffing company doesn’t get its share of search listings on Google, then you should really pity a place call “Eu” in France which is situated between Le Havre and Calais along the English channel – smack dab in the middle of calamity territory like the allied invasion, la bataille d’Azincourt and if I’m not mistaken a major WWI death zone, Amiens. But all that’s just part of its problem.
Eu (pronounced a lot like “ugh!” in English) would love to get its well-merited share of tourist dollars that originate from Google searches. Unfortunately Eu happens to have the same spelling as EU (the fully capitalized “EU” for European Union), which means that anyone searching for “restaurant Eu” or “Hotel Eu” will find themselves overwhelmed with listings relevant to the far better linked European Union.
Eu is losing so much business from poor search ratings that its inhabitants are considering changing the name of the town to something more distinctive. Sounds like a decent idea to me and considering the meaning of the word “eu” in French (‘had’, ugh!) I would have changed it a long time ago.
