An attractive nursing student is found dead in a covered passageway at Eerie County Medical Center, and police are baffled.Forget About the Murder, Why Is This Guy Still on Sick Leave?

Not by whodunit mind you – everyone seems to know it was her doctor lover/ex-lover, Dr. Timothy V. Jorden, 49, who they can’t find – but by how it is that Martin L. Motley III has been on sick leave for three years.

Who is Martin L. Motley III?   According to the story, he’s a former track star and Buffalo SWAT team member who got injured on the job three years ago, who just happened to be found at Jorden’s house with a Rolex watch, a gun and $5000.

Maybe one of you HR pros out there can explain it to me.   How does a cash strapped city like Buffalo allow someone who is actively working side jobs remain on a full-pay sick leave for three years?

Here’s the story as reported by BuffaloNew.scom.

Gregg, that’s how public jobs work in Western New York. Government is our one growth industry. Try to reform anything, and the powers that be will beat you down. Your story illustrates part of the reason our taxes are beyond outrageous here.

David
That’s sad to hear for your children and future generations.

Looking back at Soviet Armenia where I once lived and where government was the only means of legal employment, it can take several generations to undo the damage done.

But I’m still hopeful that we can turn that tide as our neighbor Wisconsin recently showed.
