Hope you are all having a good Friday, and to everyone celebrating Easter, a Good Friday. It’s time for another Five Question Friday. Today we are talking to Dave Neville, founder and owner of NewTown Solutions, a technical recruiting and staffing firm. He specializes in placing Engineering, IT and Medical Device professionals in both contract and direct placement. Neville has a background in sales and management of technical resources such as Mathematicians, Engineers, Scientists and Programmers, and enjoys helping candidates manage their careers.  Five Question Friday With Dave Neville

1.) What is the biggest growth area in your business right now?

Hardware Engineers. Many companies seem to be behind on their next product release and are playing catch up in this area.  NewTown Solutions specializes in Electrical Engineers and we have seen a dramatic uptick in the need for embedded SW engineers and HW design personnel.

2.) What is the biggest drag on your business, the bane of your existence at the moment?

HR. Many HR representatives are worried about letting  their IT and Engineering managers know that they do not understand the requirements.  So rather than ask for help from a specialist like NewTown Solutions, they choose to be a gatekeeper without a key.

3.) How do you define success?

I love helping a candidate make the match between their dream career and an organization that will let them reach their potential.  This is usually done within organizations that have a clear path to accomplish growth and are willing to establish a working relationship with our firm.

4.) Name one way you have cut costs or increased profits during the recession?

Cleaned house of less productive personnel and rewarded those who want to excel.  NewTown evaluated vendors and pushed them to be more creative in reducing our costs.  NewTown Solutions also invested in our infrastructure and used the slow period to build our internal database of contacts.

5.) What technology do you find indispensable?

SMART PHONE! Sad that my phone can multi-task more than me.  The ability to provide instant feedback to a candidate or client on a hire decision is invaluable both emotionally and economically.

Thanks so much for doing Five Question Friday with us Dave. Congrats on your success and best of luck continuing to grow your business.

If you have any questions for Dave, feel free to submit them in the comments field. And if know someone who would be a good fit for a future Five Question Friday, please let us know.
